The Kindness Jar Kit is a fun social experiment to undertake with your students. It assists classrooms struggling with name-calling, putdowns, mean behavior, or other unkind behaviors.
The Kindness Jar kit is also a great way to spread more positive, kind energy which can positively affect the overall learning environment. It is a project that will leave your students talking for years to come.
The Kindness Jar Kit includes
LESSON PLAN: A short lesson plan that guides students through understanding what kindness is, what it feels like when someone is kind to them, and how to recognize kind acts and kind words.
SUPPLY LIST: Simple, inexpensive supply list that includes suggestions for re-using objects you already have.
INSTRUCTIONS: Instructions on setting up the Kindness Jar and the social experiment. A printable label is included to make your Kindness Jar standout. There are also optional instructions to address common issues such as noticing kindness in all students and not just in a few friends.
KINDNESS TOKENS PRINTABLE: As an option, provide each student with a copy of the Kindness tokens page to cut out their own kindness tokens to be used during the experiment. (Suggestions are also given if you do not want to utilize your copy allowance or are working with younger students who would struggle with cutting.)
DAILY KINDNESS JOURNAL: Another optional element that allows students a space to reflect on the kindness that they noticed during the day. This portion of the activity would also work well in a writing notebook.
